Where the grille comes into it
On the 200, 300, 500 and 600 Series the grille hangs on springs that clip to the back of the panel and to the floor of the machine area, with a screw at the bottom holding it down. Any one of them working loose lets the panel drum against the cabinet whenever the compressor runs. On a Classic cabinet or a 648PRO it is simply whether the grille assembly is properly attached.
When the hum is the machine
A condenser buried in dust makes the fan run longer and the bay louder, which is why cleaning comes before measuring. Past that, a motor with a worn bearing hums at a pitch that does not vary, and ice grown against a blade buzzes and then stops when the blade clears it.
