Sub-Zero Service in Arcadia
Wide flat streets of large single-family houses, a great many of them rebuilt in the past twenty years with the ice built into the cabinetry run instead of standing out in a garage. The hot part of the year is long here, and ice is what a kitchen misses first.

| Local condition | What ages faster because of it | If it is the part |
|---|---|---|
| Long hot spells in late summer | Ice is the first output a marginal cabinet gives up, well before anything in the food compartments looks or tastes wrong | |
| A coil nobody has cleared | The maker's own ice-maker checklist sends you to the condenser when it has not been cleaned inside a year | $300–$720 |
| A bin judged hours after a restart | A full day is what Sub-Zero asks for, because the compartment has to get cold before one cube is formed and dropped | |
| Modules built into a joinery run | Water fittings and the machine sit behind the same panel, so the two are separated by testing rather than by guesswork | $260–$840 |
Heat first, then the coil, then the day the maker asks you to wait. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Los Angeles works that order before anybody touches the module — (310) 496-7399, and $89 covers the visit and its findings.
Ranges cover parts and labour on this company's own price bands; the $89 service call is separate until you approve the work, and then it is not.
Ice is the first thing to go
An ice maker is the most demanding passenger in a refrigeration cabinet. It needs the compartment around it genuinely cold, not merely cold enough for frozen food, and Sub-Zero writes that down: production is expected with the freezer at or below five degrees, and zero is the setting they recommend. So when a coil is struggling in August, the harvest slows or stops while everything else in the cabinet still looks entirely normal.
That is a useful piece of news rather than a worrying one. An empty bin in a hot week is often the earliest warning a household gets that the heat-rejecting end of the machine needs attention, and attending to it then is cheaper than attending to it in the autumn.
The day you have to give it
Sub-Zero’s instruction after switching a unit and its ice maker on is to wait a full day before checking the bin: the freezer has to reach temperature, then cubes form, then they drop. The same wait applies after clearing an obstruction and resetting by switching the unit off and on again.
It sounds like a small thing and it decides a surprising number of calls. A machine that was interrupted yesterday evening is not broken this morning; it is partway through the interval the maker asked for.
Where the water side ends and the module begins
In a cabinetry run the fill valve, the tubing and the module all live behind the same panel, which is why they get confused with one another. They behave quite differently under test: a supply that cannot deliver, a valve that will not open on command and a module that is not harvesting each leave a distinct signature, and the point of the visit is to find out which one you have before anything is ordered.

Production dropped to nothing in the first real heat of the summer. Where the unit sits it was starved of air, and the condenser was packed with canyon dust. Cleaned out and filling bins again.

Our undercounter wine unit stopped cooling altogether on a warm weekend with a full rack inside. The sealed system had lost its charge slowly through a corroded joint. He repaired and recharged it, then came back to confirm it was holding.

The glass door beaded up every damp morning and I was worried about the labels. Its seal had flattened along the bottom edge and the door heater had quit. Both replaced, glass clear now.

Ring while it is still misbehaving
A fault described as it happens is worth more than a fault remembered: the shelf reading, the noise, the number on the panel. Catch it live and the visit begins somewhere in the middle rather than at the start.
